What it’s like to be a Dad
Short writing about the feelings of fatherhood.
What it’s like to be a dad?
To be a dad is a constant feeling of or lack of feeling that you’re never doing enough.
You’re not spending enough time with your kids.
It’s a feeling of not giving enough, while you are with them because you’re thinking of how you need to be providing for them.
It’s a feeling of doing the work, supporting and giving them a good life, and then feeling guilty that you’re not with them.
It’s a feeling of shame that not too far from today, your sons will hold the same contempt that you once held for your own father.
Then once again guilt creeps in to tell you how bad of a son you were to your father and why you didn’t do or say more when you had the chance.
It’s a feeling of animalistic pride and EGO, that you won’t ever let those mother fuckers out do you, because you’re the boss of the house and if you ever show an ounce of weakness it can and will be used against you.
It’s a feeling of letting your guard down for a split second to let in a pinch of love that wells your eyes, which you quickly wipe away when no one is looking.
It’s the situation of walking through fear, with your chin held high, even though you’re scared as shit.
It’s the little moments when your kids look at you like you hold the world and they’ll forever trust you.
Being a father is a confusing mix of a bag. What you’ll feel that you lack, you’ll feel that you have all the gain by doing the next best thing and making the next best choice.
If you’re hard on yourself, it’s because you care. It ain’t pretty, but it’s always been worth it.
